Re Lathe

Lathe Drawers

This is pure ReRe thinking in action. Anyone could go out and buy a set of drawers for lathe parts, but NIck Johnson put this together with scrap wood salvaged from various Brooklyn dumpsters.

Total cost? Some wood screws and a few flea market drawer pulls.

There are many environmental sites that talk about the latest solar panels and the newest hybrids to be hitting the road, But a lot of these sites fall short on ideas about doing something in the now. There are those of us who will dutifully recycle glass and plastic bottles but think nothing of tossing out an old chair that could be salvaged. Some will clamor for the latest in high-tech music players while a beautiful vacuum tube radio sits idle in the basement. I’ve made a life out of making things work with what’s on hand and I want to see what others can do with the same idea.

This is a site where trash picking is a favorite sport, a garage sale can be your best friend and “junk” is a four letter word. This is a Flickr pool for the Instructables set, a haven for your grandparent’s old school ideas on saving a buck, and a call to action for those who wouldn’t readily call themselves an environmentalist. Recycling a soda can, that’s just being civic-minded; turning the same soda can into a whirligig, a shed roof or a handbag, that’s what I’m looking for.

Submissions are always welcome, either from the ‘Net or your own creative hands and minds (e-mail link coming soon). I’ll post when and where I can but I genuinely hope to gain a following and have this pretty much write itself.
